Have you got a discoloured, Chipped or just a tooth you don’t like the look of and wished matched the others better?

Dental Veneers may be the solution you’re looking for.

What are Veneers and how do they work?

Veneers are a permanent cosmetic procedure that can change the colour, shape, size and length of your tooth/teeth. They are made of thin pieces of porcelain or a resin composite material, custom made and bonded to your tooth to recreate a natural looking smile.

They are especially good for:

  • Discoloured teeth that won’t respond to whitening procedures.
  • Fractured/ chipped teeth.
  • Minor misalignment.
  • Worn tooth enamel from abrasion or erosion (Overzealous tooth brushing, highly acidic foods/drinks, acid reflux disease).

Your dentist will change the structure of your natural teeth to place the veneers. It is a permanent procedure because you cannot restore the enamel shaved away when preparing the tooth. They do however last about 10-15 years. So they will last a long time if looked after correctly, but will need to be replaced in the future.

Depending on your specific case, veneers can either be done in a single visit or sometimes there can be a wait of up to 10 days (you will have temporary veneers placed for the wait.)The veneer is bonded to your natural teeth using a dental bonding agent or cement. Once bonded to your tooth the veneer becomes strong similar to your enamel but will still need to be looked after just as your natural teeth.

To look after Veneers you should brush and floss regularly and is important to stick to your routine dental exams and hygiene visits to help prolong the life span of your natural tooth as well as the veneer.
