These can be made from porcelain or gold. These pieces are bonded to the tooth to replace the damaged area of the tooth. An inlay is more similar to a filling and is used inside the cusp tips of a tooth. An onlay is a more substantial reconstruction, extending over one or more cusps of the tooth.
These are bonded onto the teeth using special high strength resins and can actually increase the strength of the tooth up to 75%. Traditionally, gold has been the material of choice. In recent years, porcelain is becoming popular due to the strength and colour which can match the natural colour of your teeth.
We at 32 Gems offer single-visit treatment for these restorations. We have invested in CEREC CAD-CAM technology where we can provide a ceramic onlay in a single appointment.
