Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening has become very popular in today’s world. Due to the extremely high interest in whitening procedures, we have included teeth whitening options at 32 Gems.

Teeth can become discoloured for a number of reasons. Everyday activities such as dietary and social habits can have a significant effect on the colour of your teeth. Caffeine, soft drinks, red wine, tea, tobacco and antibiotics, all can cause staining on teeth to some degree.

You may be getting married soon and you want a brighter smile, or there may be a special event coming up. Whatever may be the reason, teeth whitening can restore stained or yellow teeth which have discoloured with age or any of the reasons stated above.

To help you restore your gleaming, bright, white smile and to give you an added boost of confidence, we offer many options for teeth whitening. Using the latest whitening techniques, we can help you achieve a white, brighter and more youthful smile.

As we take the responsibility for the results you achieve with our professional treatments, we require you to have healthy, clean teeth before we start. Once we have planned the best possible whitening option for you, we will give you a check-up an initial clean at your first appointment and take impressions to fabricate the bleaching trays. We will also make a note of your starting shade.

At 32 Gems Dental Care we can offer:

Take–Home System

You could carry this out in the comfort and convenience of your own home.  We take impressions of your teeth which are then used to provide upper and lower bleaching trays made of soft vinyl rubber. These trays are tailored to fit the exact contours of your teeth. They are specially moulded to fit into your mouth like a gum shield. This allows the home whitening gel to closely contact your enamel to produce an overall consistent, whiter smile.

The trays loaded with the gel can be used during the day or over-night. The length of treatment can be anywhere from 5-20 nights.

We will schedule a review appointment for you in 2 weeks to review your teeth shade.

The effects of the home whitening process can last for several months but lifestyle factors such as smoking, eating or drinking highly colour foods and liquids play a large role in the formation of new stains. However, as the trays have been fabricated to fit your teeth exactly, they can be reused at any time provided they fit well. Top-up kits are available from our practice.

Zoom Whitening

Our patients couldn’t be happier with Zoom whitening treatment!

This revolutionary and advanced whitening technique takes little over an hour producing instantaneous and amazing results right in our office. Zoom patients often see improvements at least up to eight shades. It is the perfect choice for the busy individual.

The active ingredients in the whitening products are usually either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Both the take-home and in-Office systems work essentially in the same way: After the gel is applied to the surfaces of teeth, the active ingredient is broken down and oxygen gets into the enamel of the teeth leading to whitening of the tooth.

The initial stage involves a short preparation of the mouth in order to cover your lips and gums; this leaves the teeth exposed. This is followed by the application of the proprietary zoom whitening gel. The gel is then exposed to the zoom light which acts to gently penetrate the tooth surface and break down any stains or imperfections in colour. The gel is exposed in three sessions of fifteen minutes each, making a total exposure time of 45 minutes during which you can relax and even watch television – leaving you able to whiten at your leisure!

For patients looking for both immediate and long lasting results, we recommend a combination of inoffice Zoom whitening and take-home whitening kit to achieve that brilliant, vibrant smile.

Tooth whitening is a completely safe and harmless procedure when under the supervision of a dentist. It is the most conservative way to brighten your smile without damaging the tooth structure and is the most popular form of dental cosmetic treatment available today.

The results of tooth whitening can vary from person to person and depend on the nature and severity of the staining.

Some sensitivity during the use of either whitening procedure is normal. This is however transient and generally lasts no longer than a day or two. We have specific toothpaste options and other products to help with any low-grade sensitivity experienced.
