Root Canal Treatment

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

The benefits of maintaining the natural tooth, rather than resorting to extraction & replacement, comes for a variety of reasons including the maintenance of natural look, bite & function. It is for this reason majority of patients prefer to opt for saving their natural tooth structure.

A tooth requires root canal treatment when the nerve of the tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to a deep filling near to nerve or deep decay.

How Long is the Treatment?

The treatment usually entails one to three visits. During the first visit, a small hole is drilled through the top of the tooth and into the inner chamber. Diseased tissue is removed, the inner chamber cleansed& disinfected, and the tiny canals reshaped. We employ the latest rotary file technique to achieve this. This is followed by the placement of antibiotic medication in the tooth. The hole is then sealed with a temporary filling.

The Second Visit

During the second visit, the cleansed and prepared canals are filled with a heated filling material. The tooth is sealed with a definitive restoration.

Once the treatment is complete, we usually recommend the tooth to be protected with a crown. Crowns are made of a variety of materials like porcelain fused to metal, porcelain bonded to zirconia, all-ceramic, or metal only.

We can discuss this with you & recommend the best material for your situation.
